White Rose System: the name is as idiosyncratic as the hamburgers that come out of this small hamburger joint in Highland Park, NJ. I have been living a five minute walk away from this place for the past three months but have only just gotten around to trying it. V and I both ordered double bacon cheeseburgers and fries. The first surprise is that the fries were ready about 25 seconds after we ordered them; the burgers were out another 30 seconds later. Hence the "system" in White Rose System. The bun resembled a brioche: thick, fluffy, a bit eggy. The patties had a distinctly onion flavor, made possible by their habit of mixing dehydrated onions into the meat before forming the patties. I quite enjoyed the flavor but I can understand that not everyone would. A healthy amount of American cheese was all over the burger which met my approval with its gooey processed goodness. The bacon was all curled up on top of the patties: a sign that there was some deep fryer bacon action. The fries were transcendent: crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, seved euro-style with a little wooden fork.
Calorie counters should stay far away from this establishment.
We will be making this a "once a month" dinner.
